5 out of 5 stars Gorillaz did what they do best. Make you like it.   March 11, 2010

Yessir. I'm a bona fide Gorillaz fan(atic). Here has been my experience with the album thus far.

Three songs hit me immediately. Stylo, Rhinestone Eyes and To Binge. The rest didn't come easy at first. Partly because I didn't have time to give them a fair listen and partly (mostly) because Gorillaz does that to me. When I got the first album, I put it away immediately, only to be bored one day and give it a fair listen and fell in love. Demon Days was definitely easier on the ears first listen, but I cannot say that the first few spins were as lovely as now. Plastic Beach is no different. I got the feeling that I wouldn't like it at first. Kinda saddened me. I knew however that I'd keep it in my car every trip for a while to see if it would catch me. Today I got the smile on my face, knowing that this album won't disappoint. I can't stop playing this and it probably won't for a while.

I guess this is a word of caution to the casual listener. This album requires patience, especially if you're not familiar with Gorillaz. But not much at all, that's especially if you are. The best part about it is when you are on your third, fourth or fifth play through and a track hits you, it does so with a bullet.

Well, for me at least but that's all I can really offer is my opinion right? Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 stars Best Album of 2010   March 13, 2010
A. Hosner
To a casual Gorillaz listener that only likes the singles that have come from the animated group, Plastic Beach is probably not for you. But for those of us that listen to all the albums straight through, and appreciate the talent that is displayed in the songwriting, then you will adore Plastic Beach.

Every song on this album has a flow to it, while some are not the best or have a tremendous draw, they will all continue to be played in your library for years to come. Some of the songs on Plastic Beach are that kind of special that will forever be on your most played play-list. Empire Ants, Broken, Some Kind of Nature, and Melancholy Hill are four that really stand out. Those songs exemplify everything that makes the Gorillaz great, the very chill sound that we all have come to love, very reminiscent of tracks featured on Demon Days.

As for the Deluxe package, I found it to be worth it for a few reasons. One you get a 45 min. DVD that can not be found elsewhere, two you get the nighttime cover of the Plastic Beach which looks cooler then the standard, three the access card to the website for the Plastic Beach experience, and fourth the deluxe feels much more substantial and complete then the regular. Go to a store and compare then in person to see what I mean.

Either way, I expect Plastic Beach to contend for album of the year in many peoples lists, don't be hesitant, go out and support one of the best bands of the past 11 years. The trip to Plastic Beach that you take with 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russell is one you don't want to miss.

5 out of 5 stars Albarn   March 17, 2010
Mud Pyramid (Omaha, Nebraska USA)
That's just it, I'm done, I'm ready to insert Albarn's name in the great musician category. That's right, I said musician. I didn't say rock star. Who is this guy? Former Blur guy. I liked Blur. Blur was good. Albarn is great. He dumped the panache pursuit of the legendary status that the Brit press dreamed up with what's his name, and he began pursuing art. This stuff is bold material. It lacks genre. It's what we've come to expect from this "side project" but it's advanced. Rock stars learn what will sell, and they attempt to put the same squares in different holes for as long as they can. A musician tries to create a different feel, a different color, and a different universe to each album they create. They can't help it. It's who they are. Albarn created another great album of art with this one. Every song is unique and has its own appeal. I could list singles and all that, but this album should be listened to in its entirety. This one's a STRONG RECOMMEND.

5 out of 5 stars Grows on you.   March 21, 2010

OK, so after a while, this CD really grows on you. I mean REALLY GROWS on you. It grows on you so much that it ends up being one of the best albums ever made.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the world of the plastic beach   April 8, 2010

I was blown away by this new album. Not only do I think it surpasses their self titled first album, but I think it even passes over Demon Days. With Gorillaz you can always expect something new, which is what I love. Their not going to give you the same recycled stuff that just sounds like their last album, their going to give you a completely new experience. If you haven't listened to this album yet then what are you waiting for?
